<div class="Body"><a name="1160025">The Scheduling page lets you set up a schedule for when background tasks </a>(rebuild, migrate, initialize, verify, and self-test) should occur. Background tasks can have impact on the performance of your system, so you may prefer to schedule them at times when they will be least disruptive, such as in the middle of the night or on a weekend. For details about the different background tasks, see <a href="Maintain_Units.7.15.html#1144914">Background Tasks</a>.</div>

<div class="Body"><span class="NoteHeading"><a name="1138474">Scheduled Rebuild/Migrates. </a></span>You can enable or disable the schedule for the Rebuild/Migrate tasks by selecting either <span class="UI-Element">Follow Schedule </span>or <span class="UI-Element">Ignore </span><span class="UI-Element">Schedule</span>. When schedules are set to be ignored, these tasks can be performed at any time, and are not restricted to the scheduled times.</div>

<div class="Body"><span class="NoteHeading"><a name="1528154">Scheduled Verify Mode. </a></span>You can select either <span class="UI-Element">Basic</span> or <span class="UI-Element">Advanced</span> verify mode. Basic verify creates a once a week schedule. Advanced verify has seven scheduling slots per week, similar to the Rebuild/Migrate schedule. For more information, see <a href="Maintain_Units.7.29.html#1515263">Selecting Advanced or Basic Verify Schedules</a>. </div>

|

<div class="Body"><a name="1594250">Initially, 7 schedule slots are defined, for 24 hours each. This means that even </a>if <span class="UI-Element">Follow Schedule</span> is enabled for Rebuild/Migrate or if <span class="UI-Element">Advanced</span> is selected for Auto-Verify, this schedule is equivalent to <span class="UI-Element">Ignore Schedule</span>, because tasks can run at any time, round the clock. </div>
|
|
<div class="Body"><a name="1270897">A maximum of 7 slots can be created, so to set a different schedule, start by </a>deleting one or more of the existing scheduled slots, and then add new slots. </div>
|
|

<div class="Heading3"><a name="1097285">Self-test Schedules</a></div>
|
|
<div class="BodyAfterHead"><a name="1047945">Unlike scheduling of rebuilds and verifies, scheduling of self-tests is always </a>followed. To disable self-tests you either remove all schedule times, or uncheck the tests listed in the Tasks column. </div>

<div class="Body"><span class="NoteHeading"><a name="1074882">Check SMART Thresholds. </a></span>This test checks to see whether SMART thresholds have been exceeded. </div>
|
|
<div class="Body"><a name="1074883">The SMART thresholds indicate when a SATA or SAS drive is likely to fail, </a>based on the number of errors that have been recorded through SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology). </div>
|
|
<div class="Body"><a name="1062471">If any of the disk drives have detected a “threshold exceeded” condition, then </a>an AEN is logged to the 3DM2 Alarms page. Moreover, if anything unusual is found during any self-test, it will be logged as an Alarm.</div>
